Refuge worship on the beach tonight
Baptisms after Bible Study
Tonight a woman from our church came to the summer beach Bible study. She had every reason not to come. She’s very close to death from cancer. Her skin is a greenish/pale color and the whites of her eyes are completely yellow. She needed help getting from the car to a chair on the beach, but as soon as she sat down she was smiling from ear to ear with genuine joy. Over and over again she kept saying she needed to be right there with her church family and that she was just so happy she could be there. I stood next to her and looked down and listened to this beautiful declaration of joy.
There was a young woman on the other side of her who motioned to the sky as rays of sunlight broke through and hit the ocean below. She said, “My mom calls those “Angel Ladders.” The dying woman beamed and said, “Yes, that’s perfect!” Another woman walked up to her and asked if she could get her anything or if she needed anything to which she replied with her arms lifted high at her sides, “Oh no! I am GOOD! I have everything I need right here!” And we all believed her. We were in better health than her and her days were certainly numbered, but she gave all of us a lesson of reaching out for the best part of life.
The best part, found by pushing past the circumstances and situations that threaten to poison our perspective. I don’t know if she will be alive tomorrow, but she is definitely more alive than many people I know, even in her dying days. In her final days she is choosing to live, looking towards those “Angel Ladders” and finding joy. Even though her body is visibly dying her soul is thriving. What a lesson that is!
Thank you, precious lady, for showing us joy and faith in the midst of suffering. Your smile is seared into my soul.
May we keep pushing past circumstances to finding the best part of life – the abundant joy God gives when our perspective is set on Him.
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” 2 Corinthians 5:1
Good night and God bless!
With all my heart,
P.S. The night was complete with beautiful dolphins giving us a show in the water below those rays as well!
