Happy Hump Day, Everyone!

Happy Hump Day! Here is Urban Dictionary’s definition of “Hump Day”:

The middle of a work week (Wednesday); used in the context of climbing a proverbial hill to get through a tough week.
It hasn’t necessarily been an extremely tough week for me (you should have seen me last weekend though) but nonetheless I am tired. It’s just Wednesday and sleep has been little more than a nap since the weekend. I hope, hope, hope I have a good hair day because maybe it will distract people from the mile long bags under my eyes!
I was talking to a friend last night before church started and we talked briefly about how our marriages were going. I could see she was tired. The weight of whatever is going on is bearing down on her. I know because I have days like this in my relationship. Here is what I admire about people like her. She is in the midst of pain in her most precious relationship yet here she is giving of her time and energy to volunteer at church on a Tuesday night. For her there’s something bigger, a grander purpose than just herself and her pain.
I watched her after church talking sweetly with some of the young girls there and how she gave so much joy. Those girls didn’t know how tired she was and how the weight of the world is pressing down on her. My friend just pushed past her pain and gave of herself.
As a Christian I know some would hear this story and say, “Of course she is doing that. God is giving her strength.” To which I would reply, “Yes, I know He does that for us. But we also have to make the CHOICE to do it.”
Last night at church that was one of the themes: CHOICE
What do you choose to do when you’re in pain or fed up or tired or completely over it? Do you give up? Do you isolate? Do you try to control everything and everyone? Do you blame?
Last night was about making a CHOICE to do something different in the face of circumstances that would push us in the wrong direction.
So it’s Hump Day…and I have a busy day and maybe you too. Maybe we have some hard choices ahead of us. Maybe it’s the CHOICE about attitude and perspective or about giving up or pressing on. Whatever it is I would challenge us today to choose something that will bless others and bring honor.
Do the hard thing.
Like showing up to set up tables at a church and connecting with young girls when your heart is breaking. You never know who is watching and how you could change their life just by one single CHOICE.
So here was the Bible verse that closed out last night’s Bible study:
“…that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live”  Deuteronomy 30:19
Have a blessed Hump Day 🙂
With all my heart,
P.S. Thank you to my husband who handed me this cup of coffee this morning and said, “Just sit at the computer, pray and see what happens.”  I love you, Mario G!
